What is Self-Trust?

Self-trust is the foundation of entrepreneurial courage. It's the deep confidence in your ability to handle whatever comes your way, make sound decisions, and learn from both successes and failures. It's not about being perfect—it's about trusting your capacity to navigate uncertainty and grow.

Entrepreneurs with strong self-trust make decisions faster, take calculated risks more readily, and recover from setbacks more quickly. They don't second-guess themselves into paralysis or seek excessive validation from others before taking action.

The 5 Foundations of Self-Trust

1. Self-Awareness

Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, values, and patterns. You can't trust what you don't know. Self-awareness provides the foundation for making decisions aligned with who you truly are.

Practice: Weekly "strengths inventory" - identify one strength you used effectively and one area where you want to grow.
2. Competence Building

Systematically developing your skills and knowledge. Self-trust grows when you have evidence of your ability to learn, adapt, and perform. It's built through small wins and continuous improvement.

Practice: Set weekly "competence challenges" - small goals that stretch your abilities and build evidence of your capability.
3. Promise Keeping

Following through on commitments you make to yourself and others. Every kept promise builds trust; every broken promise erodes it. Start with small, achievable commitments and build from there.

Practice: Make one small daily commitment to yourself (like a 10-minute walk) and track your follow-through for 30 days.
4. Intuition Development

Learning to recognize and trust your inner wisdom. Your intuition processes vast amounts of information below conscious awareness. Developing this capacity enhances your decision-making.

Practice: Before making decisions, pause and ask "What does my gut tell me?" Track these intuitive hits and their outcomes.
5. Self-Compassion

Treating yourself with kindness when you make mistakes or face setbacks. Self-trust requires knowing that you'll support yourself through difficulties rather than harsh self-criticism.

Practice: When you make a mistake, ask "What would I tell a good friend in this situation?" and offer yourself the same compassion.
